LOS ANGELES – Cal State L.A.'s women's tennis team opened its 2010 season with a tough loss to Sonoma State Saturday.
The Golden Eagles lost all three doubles contests and never recovered in a 6-3 loss to the Seawolves in California Collegiate Athletic Association play. Cal State L.A. (0-1) earned points from
Dora Kiss at No. 1 singles,
Linda Majzlikova at No. 3 singles and
Jillian Sangria at No. 4 singles.
Kiss won her singles match with a 6-1, 6-0 decision over Sonoma State's Stephanie Luk. Majzlikova outlasted Jeanette Peck, 6-4, 3-6 (10-8) at No. 3 singles and Sangria pulled out a win over Molly Maguire, 6-1, 5-7 (10-4).
The Seawolves took control by winning all three doubles contests by identical 8-4 scores. Luk and Maguire won at No. 1 doubles over Kiss and Majzlikova, Haley Hickock and Jessica Harris won at No. 2 doubles over Espinosa and Sangria and Peck and Stephanie Hoffmire won at No. 3 doubles over Lamesic and Prevost.
