HAYWARD -- Cal State L.A. women's volleyball team suffered another tough evening on the road Saturday and was unable to shake it recent losing streak.
The Golden Eagles were outplayed from the start and fell to Cal State East Bay, 25-17, 25-19, 25-23 in a California Collegiate Athletic Association match in Pioneer Gym. Cal State L.A. (6-6, 3-5 CCAA) lost its fourth straight match, all away from home.
Cal State L.A. dropped consecutive road matches at Cal State Monterey Bay, San Francisco State, UC San Diego and Cal State East Bay.
The Golden Eagles had little success slowing down Cal State East Bay (11-3, 6-3 CCAA). The Pioneers hit at a .368 clip for the match, including a .560 percentage in the second set. Cal State L.A. had only five digs in the first set and only had 13 through the first two sets.
The Golden Eagles also managed only three blocks, although Cal State East Bay had only four.
Marquis Mora had eight kills and hit at a .357 percentage to lead the Golden Eagles.
Chelsea Hamilton and
Zuzana Cizova had seven kills each.
Katie Allen had a match-high 12 kills for the Pioneers and hit at a .429 clip. Brianna Bryant had nine kills and hit at a .500 percentage and Sukhjit Athwal had nine kills and hit at a .421 rate.
Amrita Tuladhar had 29 set assists and two service aces for Cal State L.A.
The Golden Eagles fell behind early in the first set and were unable to slow down the Pioneers. Mora had four kills in four swings in the opening frame for the Golden Eagles.
The Golden Eagles started well in the second set and had a 12-9 lead following back-to-back aces from Tuladhar. Cal State East Bay, though, took control of the match with a 14-4 run that staked the Pioneers to a 23-16 lead. Kills by
Natalia Gonzalez and Cizova staved off a pair of set points for the Golden Eagles.
Cal State L.A. trailed for most of the third set, but rallied to tie the score at 20-20 following an ace by Hamilton. Cal State East Bay, though, surged ahead, 24-21 and, following kills by Mora and Cizova extended the match, a kill by Allen ended it.
Cal State L.A. will play its next three matches at home, beginning with a contest on Wednesday against Cal State Dominguez Hills.
