Cal State L.A. took a 21-19 lead in the second set after a kill by Tuladhar, an attack error and a kill by Cizova erased a 19-18 deficit. UC San Diego, though, regrouped and scored the next five points to take control.

UC San Diego led for nearly the entire third set to take the lead in the match. Cal State L.A. battled back in the fourth set and opened up a 13-9 lead following a block by Faulkner and a kill by Chelsea Hamilton. Cal State L.A. got an ace from Mary Laupepa to close to within 21-20, but UC San Diego scored the next two points and was never threatened again.
