Golden Eagles Roll To Fourth Consecutive Conference Win

LOS ANGELES – Cal State L.A.'s women's volleyball team completed a perfect week.
 
The Golden Eagles swept their third straight opponent, taking care of San Francisco State, 25-20, 25-20, 25-11, Saturday night in a California Collegiate Athletic Association match in the Eagles Nest. Cal State L.A. (9-5, 5-2 CCAA) won its fourth straight match overall and climbed into a tie for third place in the conference. San Francisco State (12-3, 5-2 CCAA) had a five-match winning streak snapped.

Cal State L.A. had previously posted sweeps over Cal State Dominguez Hills and Cal State Monterey Bay.
 
Gabriela Bulawczyk had a match-high 11 kills to lead the Golden Eagles, while Zuzana Cizova had nine kills and 11 digs. Kaylynne De La Rosa had 25 set assists and four kills, while Stefanie Gay had 20 digs.
 
Kyle Lamet had 10 kills to lead the Gators, while Beth Perkins, the reigning CCAA Player of the Week, had eight kills, one ace and two blocks.
 
Cal State L.A. enjoyed a 44-35 edge in kills and hit at a .386 percentage to .112 for the Gators. Cal State L.A. also enjoyed a 6-2 edge in blocks and was efficient in its serving game, recording four aces and just three service errors.
 
Mary Laupepa had six kills and three blocks, while Marquis Mora had six kills and two blocks for Cal State L.A.
 
Cal State L.A. never trailed in the opening set, although San Francisco State rallied from a 12-8 deficit to forge a 13-13 tie. Kills by Cizova and Mora gave the Golden Eagles the lead for good and Cal State L.A. pulled away late and got to set point at 24-17 following kills from Bulawczyk, Cizova and Laupepa. A kill by Cizova at 24-20 gave the first set to the Golden Eagles.
 
The second set was also close and San Francisco State took a 15-14 lead after kills by Lamet and Lauren Walsh. Cal State L.A., though, scored the next four points on a block by Mora, an attack error, a kill by Mora and a kill by Bulawczyk and never trailed again. After the Gators cut a five-point deficit to just two at 22-20, the Golden Eagles got kills from Bulawczyk, Chelsea Hamilton and Laupepa to close out the set.
 
Cal State L.A. jumped out to a quick 12-3 lead in the third set and never looked back. San Francisco State got to within 20-11, but a kill by Bulawczyk got the serve back for the Golden Eagles and she served out the match. A block by Laupepa and Kassie Faulkner ended the match.
 
Cal State L.A. will play its next four matches on the road, beginning with a match at No. 2 Cal State San Bernardino on Friday, Oct. 2.
