Golden Eagles Fall To 0-2 After Non-Conference Defeat

Box Score

EL CAJON -- Cal State L.A.'s women's basketball team continues to search for its first win of the season.

The Golden Eagles fell to 0-2 after struggling all night on offense and falling to San Diego Christian, 53-36, Saturday night in a non-conference game at San Diego Christian. Cal State L.A. had opened its season earlier in the week with a loss to Cal State Dominguez Hills.

Jordan Kuzma had 14 points and eight rebounds for the Golden Eagles, while Jazzi Johnson had nine points and four rebounds and Shatori Dearman had seven points and eight rebounds.

Cal State L.A. shot just 30 percent for the game and only 22 percent in the first half when they endured a nine-minute scoring drought that ended the period. The Golden Eagles trailed 23-10 at halftime and trailed by double-digit margins the rest of the way. Cal State L.A. trailed by as many as 23 points in the second half.

Camille Cooper had a game-high 19 points to lead San Diego Christian (1-3).

Cal State L.A. enjoyed a 40-29 rebounding edge, but could not overcome its cold shooting and a big turnover disparity. The Golden Eagles committed 28 turnovers, while San Diego Christian committed only 15. The Hawks shot 36 percent for the game.

The Golden Eagles trailed early, but tied it at 10-10 after a 3-pointer by Kelli McClintick with 9:24 left in the first half. Those were the last points of the half for Cal State L.A., which surrendered 13 unanswered points to fall behind, 23-10, at halftime.

McClintick's 3-pointer was the only one of the game for the Golden Eagles, who missed their other 11 attempts.

Cal State L.A. will return to action with a conference game at Humboldt State on Dec. 3.
