No. 13 Golden Eagles Get Back To Winning Ways At Home

LOS ANGELES – Cal State L.A.'s men's soccer team returned home and got back to its winning ways.
 
The No. 13 Golden Eagles snapped a two-match losing streak with a 4-0 California Collegiate Athletic Association victory over conference newcomer Cal State East Bay Friday at Jesse Owens Track. Cal State L.A. (12-2-1, 10-2-1 CCAA) maintains its six-point edge over Cal State Dominguez Hills in the CCAA South Division.
 
Four different Golden Eagles scored goals and Cal State L.A. scored twice in each half against Cal State East Bay (1-14, 0-11 CCAA). Mauricio Barrett, Hector Macias, Aza Gomez and Spencer Tripp scored goals for Cal State L.A. Macias had a goal and two assists for the Golden Eagles.
 
Tobias Hummel and Jose Martinez, in his first action of the season, combined to make two saves in goal for Cal State L.A. The Golden Eagles enjoyed a 30-3 edge in shots. Cal State East Bay used two goalies, each for a half. Cesar Villa made six saves in the first half, while Billy Morales made seven saves in the second half.
 
Barrett opened the scoring for the Golden Eagles just 6:32 after getting to the rebound of a shot by Macias and taking a hard shot from just outside the box to the left corner of the net. It was Barrett's first goal of the season.
 
Macias made it 2-0 in the 25th minute. Federico Cino had apparently scored a goal, but the Cal State East Bay cleared the ball before it crossed the line. Macias pounced on it and shot the rebound into the right corner for his first goal of the season.
 
Gomez made it 3-0 on a penalty kick in the 55th minute. Gomez connected for his fourth goal of the season.
 
Tripp finished the scoring in the 85th minute when he took a pass from Macias and scored his third goal of the season.
 
Derrek Horn and Tripp both had active games for the Golden Eagles and each had a team-high six shots, four each on goal.
 
Cal State L.A. will return to action with a home game against UC San Diego. The Golden Eagles will honor their 10 seniors in pre-game ceremonies.
