Golden Eagles Win Fourth Straight Match With A Sweep

LOS ANGELES – Cal State L.A.'s women's volleyball team used a balanced attack to post its fourth straight California Collegiate Athletic Association victory.
 
The Golden Eagles jumped out to early leads in all three sets and posted a 25-19, 25-21, 25-16 victory over Cal State Dominguez Hills Wednesday night in the Eagles Nest. Cal State L.A. (13-6, 9-3 CCAA) won for the eighth time in its last nine matches and competed a season sweep of the Toros.
 
Cal State L.A. has now won 32 consecutive matches against Cal State Dominguez Hills (1-18, 1-11 CCAA) dating back to 1991.
 
Gabriela Bulawczyk had 11 kills to lead the Golden Eagles, while Chelsea Hamilton had 10 kills. Kaylynne De La Rosa had 22 set assists, Amrita Tuladhar had a team-high 14 digs and Keslie Brown had two of the Golden Eagles' eight service aces.
 
Ashley Clark had 10 kills to lead Cal State Dominguez Hills, while Samantha Maxwell had seven kills.
 
Cal State L.A. had a 45-30 edge in kills and hit at a .337 percentage to just .160 for the Toros. The Golden Eagles had a slim 3-1 advantage in blocks.
 
Marquis Mora had nine kills in just 15 swings and had an attack percentage of .600 for the Golden Eagles, while Kassie Faulkner had five kills in nine attempts for a .556 attack percentage. Mary Laupepa had five kills and a pair of blocks.
 
Cal State Dominguez Hills led early, 6-3, before the Golden Eagles used a 15-4 run to open up an 18-10 lead. Kills by Hamilton and Laupepa and an ace by De La Rosa highlighted the latter part of the stretch. A kill by De La Rosa got the Golden Eagles to set point at 24-19 and an ace by Zuzana Cizova ended the set.
 
Cal State L.A. jumped out to an early 8-2 lead, but never could shake the Toros in the second set. Cal State Dominguez Hills rallied strongly and pulled to within 20-19 after a kill by Heather Rushton. Kills by Laupepa and Cizova stopped the run and a block by Laupepa and Cizova made it 23-19. A kill by Cizova made it 24-20 and a kill by Mora ended the set at 25-21.
 
The Golden Eagles held a slim 12-11 lead in the third set, but finally got some breathing room after a 4-0 run accomplished thanks to two kills by Hamilton, a kill by Mora and an ace by Laupepa made it 16-11. The Toros got as close as 17-14 after a kill by Cambrea Horn, but a kill by Faulkner started a 7-0 run that included some strong serving by Annie Kim, who served for six straight points to get the Golden Eagles to match point. After the Toros saved two match points, a kill by Faulkner ended the contest.
 
Cal State L.A. will return to action on Friday with a home match against No. 17 Sonoma State.
