Isabelle Harvey Named CSULA Women's Soccer Coach

LOS ANGELES -- Isabelle Harvey, who guided Cal Poly Pomona to NCAA Division II and California Collegiate Athletic Association Championship Tournament appearances last year, has been named the new Cal State L.A. women's soccer head coach, CSULA Director of Athletics Dr. Dan Bridges announced on Friday.

Harvey, who also spent time at Cal State L.A. earlier in her coaching career, was Cal Poly Pomona's head coach for the past seven years. Last year, the Broncos reached the NCAA playoffs for the first time since 2001 and set a new program record with an 11-game unbeaten streak during the season.

During her career at Cal Poly Pomona, Harvey's players earned 22 All-CCAA awards, two All-CCAA Freshman of the Year awards, a conference Newcomer of the Year award, four NSCAA All-Region awards and two CoSIDA All-Academic awards.

She will take the reigns of a program that has posted a 52-17-12 over the past four seasons and hosted NCAA playoff matches in 2009 and 2011. Cal State L.A. won its first CCAA title in 2009 and was ranked 12th in the nation at the end of the 2011 season. The Golden Eagles were 7-6-5 overall in 2012 and posted their fourth straight winning season and eighth in nine years.

"First of all, I'd like to say that I think Coach Chamides did an outstanding job with the program and I'm very excited to get there and continue the tradtion that he helped develop," Harvey said. "It's my intention to take it to the next level."

Prior to joining Cal Poly Pomona in 2006, Harvey was an assistant coach for one season at USC, where she was a four-time All-American and a three-time MVP. She helped the Trojans to a 13-6-4 overall record and into the NCAA Tournament.

Harvey is returning to the program where she started her coaching career. She was a coach at Cal State L.A. for four seasons from 2002-2005, starting as an assistant coach for one year and then serving as the interim head coach for the men's and women's programs in 2003. She was the top assistant for the programs, working with current Cal State L.A. men's coach Chris Chamides, for two seasons before leaving for USC.

"I'm delighted that Isabelle Harvey will be joining our staff; she's done a great job of developing the program at Cal Poly Pomona over the past several years," Bridges said. "We look for continued success in our program under her guidance."

Harvey also had an exceptional playing career and was recently honored by Quebec as its "Athlete of the Century." She was presented with the Centennial Medal as one of five leading figures to influence the development of soccer in the region with Harvey being recognized as a player. She started all three games for the Canadian National Team at the 1999 World Cup and registered two assists. She currently ranks 13th in Canadian history with 44 international caps. She also played for Ajax Fram, a semi-pro team, which won national championships from 2001-04.

She was the Pac-10 Player of the Year at USC in 1998 and still holds school career records for goals, assists, game-winning goals and points. She is the only player in the program's history to earn All-America honors all four seasons at USC.

"I'd like to thank Athletics Director Dan Bridges, the committee and all of the Golden Eagle family for giving me this great opportunity," Harvey said. "I"m excited to get started."
