2009: Had a sensational second season for the Golden Eagles in his final year with the program. Received the department's 2008-09 Frank J. Candida Award as Cal State L.A.'s top male athlete. Earned All-America honors in the decathlon after finishing fifth in the nation. Won the California Collegiate Athletic Association Championship in the decathlon and also earned all-conference honors in three other events. Took second in the pole vault, third in the javelin and third as part of Cal State L.A.'s 4x100 relay team. Also finished ninth in the triple jump. Had best marks of 6,993 points in the decathlon, 11.20 in the 100, 50.94 in the 400, 4:46.24 in the 1,500, 16.18 in the 110 hurdles, 6-1.50 in the high jump, 15-10 in the pole vault, 22-3.50 in the long jump, 42-2 in the triple jump, 39-5.75 in the shot put, 121-10 in the discus and 163-2 in the javelin. Earned a total of six all-conference awards. For his career, had best marks of 6,993 in the decathlon, 11.20 in the 100, 50.94 in the 400, 4:46.24 in the 1,500, 16.18 in the 110 high hurdles, 6-1.50 in the high jump, 15-10 in the pole vault, 22-3.50 in the long jump, 42-2 in the triple jump, 39-5.75 in the shot put, 121-10 in the discus and 163-4 in the javelin, Finished his career No. 5 all-time at Cal State L.A. in the decathlon.
2008: Had an outstanding first season with the Golden Eagles. Finished second in the California Collegiate Athletic Association in the decathlon with 6,521 points. That mark was an NCAA Division II provisional qualifying mark. Also earned All-CCAA honors in the pole vault after finishing third. Also earned points for the Golden Eagles in the javelin throw by finishing sixth. Had best marks of 15-7 in the pole vault, 21-8 in the long jump, 6-0 in the high jump, 163-1 in the javelin, 113-2 in the discus, 37-11.50 in the shot put, 35-0.50 in the triple jump, 16.40 in the high hurdles, 4:51.66 in the 1,500, 52.71 in the 400 and 11.66 in the 100.
At San Joaquin Delta Community College: Was the 2007 California State Community Colleges champion in the decathlete with 6316 points. Was also a state qualifier in the pole vault. Won the Big 7 Conference championship in the pole vault with a mark of 15-3 and won the Nor Cal Community Colleges championship in the decathlon and pole vault. Also competed in cross country.
At Bret Harte High School: Competed in football, wrestling, basketball and track and field. Earned first-team All-League honors in football as a quarterback in 2003. Was part of a league championship team in track and field in 2004 and won a league championship in the pole vault.
Personal: Son of J. and Rita Linker and Robert and Patti Reid. Majoring in business management. Enjoys hunting, fishing and Xtreme sports. Lists winning the 2007 state championship in the decathlon as his most exciting experience in sports.
