2009: Had a strong season for the Golden Eagles in his third and final year with the program. Had best times of 4:14.11 in the 1,500 meters, 9:28.00 in the 3,000, 10:48.56 in the 3,000 steeplechase and 16:22.52 in the 5,000. Finished ninth in the steeplechase in the California Collegiate Athletic Association Championships. Also finished 22nd in the 5,000. For his career, had best marks of 4:14.11 in the 1,500, 9:28.00 in the steeplechase, 10:48.56 in the steeplechase and 16:22.52 in the 5,000.

2008: Ran well in his second season with the Golden Eagles. Had best times of 4:19.79 in the 1,500 meters, 9:40.76 in the 3,000 and 16:36.88 in the 5,000.

2007: Had a best time of 9:40.14 at the Rossi Relays in the 3,000 and ran a 4:26.77 in the 1,500 at the UCLA Invitational. Also ran a time of 16:45.39 in the 5,000 at the Occidental Distance Carnival and a 10:51.09 in the 3,000 steeplechase at Steve Scott Invitational.

At La Serna High School: Was the Most Valuable Runner on the school’s cross country team. Had best times of 4:40 in the mile and 16:20 in the three-mile. Competed in football, soccer, cross country and track and field.

Personal: Son of Frank and Luz Cortes. Majoring in nutrition. Enjoys collecting Pokemon. Lists a slow-motion finish as his most exciting experience in sports.
