2016: Had a second strong season for the Golden Eagles and was one of the team's most versatile competitors in his final year with the program. Had best marks of 12.45 in the 100 meters, 25.87 in the 200, 17-3.50 in the long jump and 93-9 in the javelin. For his career, had best marks of 12.45 in the 100, 25.87 in the 200, 17-3.50 in the long jump, 38-1.50 in the triple jump, 11-4.50 in the pole vault and 93-9 in the javelin.

2015: Competed for the Golden Eagles as a freshman. Had best marks of 11-4.50 in the pole vault and 38-1.50 in the triple jump.

At South El Monte High School: Competed in football, soccer and track and field. Earned a 2013-14 National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete award. Was the school’s 2013-14 Athlete of the Year. Was the program’s Pole Vaulter of the Year in 2013 and 2014. Finished third in the league in the pole vault and was named his team’s Most Improved Athlete.

Personal: Son of Gisela Portilla. Majoring in mechanical engineering. Enjoys working out, eating and listening to music. Lists pole vaulting at the CIF prelims and making it to CIF Finals and becoming the second person at his school to accomplish that as his most exciting experience in sports.
