Summary

Biography

2019: Had a fantastic end of the season for the Golden Eagles in his fourth and final year with the program. Placed third in the California Collegiate Athletic Association in the shot put, earning a podium finish on his final attempt. Had a new personal best in the shot put with a mark of 54-3.75 on April 27 at UC Irvine. Recorded a season-best mark of 138-9 in the discus at the CCAA Championships and placed 10th. Earned All-West Region honors in the shot put from the United States Track & Field/Cross Country Coaches Association. Earned a CCAA All-Academic Award for 2019-20 and a CCAA Spring All-Academic Award. For his career, had best marks of 54-3.75 in the shot put and 148-5 in the discus. Finished his career No. 9 in the shot put on Cal State LA's all-time list.

2018: Had a third tremendous season with the Golden Eagles. Finished fourth in the CCAA in the shot put and 12th in the discus. Had a new personal best of 53-6 and recorded an NCAA Division II provisional qualifying mark. Had a best mark of 141-6 in the discus.

2017: Had an outstanding season in his second year with the program. Finished second in the CCAA Championships in the shot put and finished eighth in the discus. Had best marks of 51-10.75 in the shot put and 148-5 in the discus.

2016: Had a strong first season with the Golden Eagles and had the team’s best marks in two events. Had a best mark of 48-2 in the shot put and a top throw of 146-6 in the discus. Finished 12th in the CCAA Championships in the discus and 13th in the shot put.

At Antelope High School: Set a school record in the shot put with a mark of 58-7. Also had a top mark of 137-9 in the discus. Had a high-school grade point average of 3.7 and earned an Academic Merit Award as a junior and senior. Was the team’s Most Improved Athlete in 2014 and won varsity league championships in the shot put in 2014 and 2015. Also picked up All-Region honors. Competed in track and field and basketball.

Personal: Son of Courtney and Charmaine O’Neal Edwards. Majoring in liberal studies. Enjoys art, singing, comedy and video games. Lists breaking a backboard with a dunk in basketball and breaking a school shot put record and moving into the top-10 in the nation as his most exciting experiences in sports. Notes he has a sister, Faith Edwards, and grandparents George and Doreen O’Neal.
