Biography

2021: Was on the track and field roster, but team did not compete due to COVID-19 in his final year with the program. For his career, had best marks of 1:54.90 in the 800 meters and 4:05.69 in the 1,500.

2020: Had a sensational start to the shortened track and field season and earned California Collegiate Athletic Association “All-Star” recognition. Had best times of 1:54.90 in the 800 meters and 4:05.69 in the 1,500 before the season was halted. Had the No. 3 time in the conference, region, and nation in the 800. Earned a 2019-20 CCAA All-Academic Award and a 2020 CCAA Spring All-Academic Award. Was on Cal State LA’s cross country team in the fall, but team did not compete due to COVID-19.

2019: Made his debut for the Golden Eagles’ track and field team. Had the team’s best time of 1:59.15 in the 800 meters. Earned a 2018-19 CCAA All-Academic Award. Was on Cal State LA’s cross country roster, but did not compete in any meets.

2018: Made his debut with Cal State LA’s cross country team in the fall and was the team’s No. 1 runner. Competed in seven races. Finished 64th in the CCAA Championships with a time of 27:11.3 over 8,000 meters. Also placed 137th in the NCAA Division II West Regionals with a time of 34:41.5 over 10,000 meters.

At Cerritos Community College: Finished 44th in the CCCAA State Championships as a sophomore in 2017, 28th in the Southern California Championships and sixth in the South Coast Conference Championships. Was 77th at the state championships as a freshman, 59th at the Southern California Championships and 23rd at the conference championships.

At Schurr High School: Specialized in the 400 meters (52.10), 800 (1:55.42) and 1,600 (4:28.0). Won the league championship in the 800 meters, 1,600 and ran a leg of the 4x400 relay as a senior. Reached the CIF Finals as a senior. Helped team win three Almont League cross country titles. Voted the team’s Most Valuable Player as a senior and sophomore.

Personal: Son of Pedro Sanchez and Francisca Lopez. Majoring in theater. Enjoys painting.
