Biography

2022: Was the No. 1 runner for Cal State LA’s cross country team in the fall in his final year with the program. Competed in six of the team’s seven meets. Finished 51st in the California Collegiate Athletic Association Championships. Had a best 8,000-meter time of 26:12.0 at the Highlander Invitational at UC Riverside on Oct. 15. Had another outstanding season for Cal State LA’s track and field team in his final year with the program in the spring (2023). Had best marks of 1:51.87 in the 800 and 4:01.67 in the 1,500 meters. Was part of a CCAA champion 4x400 relay team and placed fourth in the CCAA in the 800 meters. Earned All-West Region honors in the 4x400 relay for a second straight season. For his career, had best marks of 1:51.47 in the 800 and 4:01.67 in the 1,500. Earned three All-West Region awards and a second-team All-America award. Also won two CCAA championships.

2021: Ran in six meets for Cal State LA’s cross country team in the fall. Had a best time of 26:06.4 over 8,000 meters at the Cougar Challenge. Finished 51st in the CCAA Championships with a time of 26:22.9 over 8,000 meters. Finished seventh at the Coyote Challenge with a time of 26:57.7 over 8,000 meters. Was a consistent top-three performer on the team. Had a sensational season with the track and field team in the spring (2022). Earned second-team All-America honors as a member of the 4x400 relay team that placed ninth in the country and won a CCAA championship. Earned All-West Region honors in the 800 and 4x400 relay. Finished 10th in the 800 in the CCAA Championships. Had a best time of 1:51.47 in the 800 and posted an NCAA provisional qualifying mark. Also earned All-Academic honors from the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association for having better than a 3.25 grade point average and achieving a provisional qualifying mark for the NCAA track and field championships.

2020: Was on the cross country roster in the fall, but team did not compete due to COVID-19. Was on the track and field roster in the spring (2021), but team did not compete due to COVID-19.

2019: Competed in the final three events for Cal State LA’s cross country team in the fall and made an immediate impact in the team’s top-five. Was fifth on the team at the CCAA Championships and was 76th with a time of 28:23.84 over 8,000 meters. Was second on the team at the NCAA West Region Championships after finishing 103rd with a time of 32:20.2 over 10,000 meters. Was also on Cal State LA’s track and field team in the spring (2020), but did not compete in any meets before the season was halted.

At Long Beach Wilson High School: Competed in football, cross country and track and field. Was the team’s Most Valuable Runner and won a Moore League championship in the 800 meters.

Personal: Son of Grant Nichol. Majoring in criminal justice. Enjoys driving around and listening to music, and spending time with his dog, Maxie. Says he can take her to a dog park and spend hours there. Also enjoys eating ice cream and playing video games. Lists winning the 4x400 relay title at the CCAA Championships is his most exciting experience in sports.
