Biography

2016-17: Had another strong season for the Golden Eagles in his final season with the program. Appeared in 26 games with 15 starts and was one of the team leaders. Played a total of 392 minutes. Averaged 2.2 points and 1.1 rebounds per game. Had a career-high eight points in a season-opening 97-80 win over Cal Lutheran (11-13-16). Had a season-high five rebounds in a 68-57 win over Cal State Monterey Bay (1-21-17). Had three assists in an 82-66 win at Humboldt State (2-2-17). Made his first career start and played 21 minutes in the win over Cal Lutheran (11-13-16). Was one of two Cal State L.A. recipients of the 2016-17 Dr. Hal Charnofsky Memorial Award from the CCAA for academic and athletic accomplishments. For his career, appeared in 46 games with 15 starts. Played a total of 602 minutes. Averaged 1.9 points and 1.4 rebounds per game.

2015-16: Was one of the most improved players on the team and made significant contributions in his second year with the program. Appeared in 17 games and averaged 1.8 points and 2.2 rebounds per game. Had a season-high six points and four rebounds in a win at Cal State Dominguez Hills (2-13-16). Had five points and a career-high eight rebounds in a win at Cal State San Marcos (2-6-16). Also had five points and seven rebounds in a home win over Cal State Dominguez Hills (2-2-16) and five points and four rebounds in a home win over San Francisco State (1-30-16).

2014-15: Earned playing time in his first season with the Golden Eagles. Appeared in three games. Made his Cal State L.A. debut and had an assist against Cal State San Bernardino (2-7-15). Was named the team’s Most Inspirational Player.

At Mt. SAC: Was part of a state championship team in 2012-13. Averaged 4.0 points, 2.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game.

At Arroyo Valley High School: Was a team captain. Earned second-team All-Defense honors. Was on the school’s Honor Roll and ranked in the top-15 percent of his class.

Personal: Son of Randell and Hazel Hopkins. Majoring in Kinesiology. Enjoys singing and church awareness groups. Lists winning the 2013-14 state championship at Mt. SAC, the first in the school’s history in men’s basketball, as his most exciting experience in sports. Notes he has a twin sister and is the youngest of nine children in his family.
