Cal State LA Athletics

2011: Competed for Cal State L.A.’s cross country team last fall. Ran in four races and was in the team’s top five in the final two races of the season. Finished 31^st in the California Collegiate Athletic Association Championships with a 6,000-meter time of 22:37.3 and helped the Golden Eagles to a third-place team finish. Also placed 42^nd and was the team’s third-fastest runner with a time of 22:54.0 in the NCAA West Regionals. Earned USTFCCCA All-Academic honors. Also competed for Cal State L.A.’s track and field team in the spring. Had best times of 2:26.77 in the 800 meters, 4:53.48 in the 1,500, 11:17.31 in the 3,000 and 18:58.37 in the 5,000.

At Cerritos College: Was the team MVP in cross country and the top distance runner on the track and field team. Finished eighth in the state in the 1,500 meters.

At El Rancho High School: Was the team MVP in cross country and won the Coach’s Award in track and field. Four-year letterwinner in track and field and two-year letterwinner in cross country. Was captain of the cross country and track and field teams for two years.

Personal: Daughter of Manuel and Esther Mejia. Majoring in fine art. Enjoys painting, reading, running and cooking. Lists making it to the state championships in track and field at Cerritos as her most exciting experience in sports.
