2011: Had an excellent second season with the Golden Eagles in his final year with the program. Finished eighth in the California Collegiate Athletic Association honors in the decathlon with 5,527 points and scored points for the team for the second straight year. Had best marks of 12.22 in the 100, 55.36 in the 400, 5:15.96 in the 1,500, 16.93 in the 110 high hurdles, 5-6.50 in the high jump, 14-5.25 in the pole vault, 19-00.75 in the long jump, 35-3.75 in the shot put and 127-1 in the javelin. For his career, had a best total of 6,022 points in the decathlon. Also had best marks of 15.95 in the 110 hurdles and 156-9 in the javelin.

2010: Had a strong first season with the Cal State L.A. program. Had the team’s best mark in the decathlon with 6,022 points, the javelin with a throw of 156-9 and the 110 high hurdles with a time of 15.95. Placed seventh in the California Collegiate Athletic Association in the decathlon.

At Glendale College: Competed in football and track and field. Was the Most Valuable Player on the track and field team and earned All-Conference honorable mention two years in a row in football.

At L.A. Cathedral High School: Competed in football, water polo, track and field and swimming. Was Cathedral’s Athlete of the Year. Earned first-team All-League honors in football and was the league MVP in swimming. Earned second-team All-League honors in water polo. Was a CIF finalist in the 110 hurdles and the pole vault.

Personal: Son of Donald and Cecilia Esquivel. Majoring in television, film and media studies. Enjoys drumming, Xbox, music and movies. Lists achieving a top-16 national ranking in swimming as his most exciting experience in sports.
