Biography

2011: Had a magnificent second season with the Golden Eagles in his final year with the program. Won the NCAA Division II championship in the triple jump and set a new program record with a mark of 54-8. Also finished 12th in the nation in the long jump. Shared the Frank J. Candida Award with Georgio Bryant as Cal State L.A.' top male athlete for a second straight year. Was named the Field Athlete of the Year by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.  Won the California Collegiate Athletic Association championship in the triple jump for a second straight year and finished second in the conference in the long jump. Was part of Cal State L.A.'s 4x100 relay team that finished third in the conference. Earned All-West Region honors in the long jump, triple jump and 4x100 relay. For his career, had best marks of 54-8 in the triple jump and 24-11 in the long jump. Finished his career as the program record-holder in the triple jump. Earned four All-America awards and was a two-time West Region Field Athlete of the Year. Also won three conference championships and six all-conference awards.

2010: Had a sensational first season with the Golden Eagles. Shared the Frank J. Candida Award with Damein White as Cal State L.A.’s top male athlete for 2009-10. Was named the NCAA Division II West Region Field Athlete of the Year. Was also named the California Collegiate Athletic Association’s Athlete of the Meet. Finished second in the nation and earned All-America honors in the triple jump. Also earned All-America honors in the long jump after finishing sixth. Picked up a third All-America award as part of the 4x100 relay team that finished third in the country. Was the CCAA champion in the triple jump and as part of the 4x100 relay team. Also earned All-Conference honors in the long jump after finishing second in the conference. Received the department's 2009-10 Frank J. Candida Award as Cal State L.A.'s top male athlete.Top mark of 54-7.25 was No. 1 in the nation for NCAA Division II and also No. 2 all-time at Cal State L.A. Also had the team’s best mark in the long jump (24-3.75).

At Riverside Community College: Placed second in the state as a sophomore and helped the team to a state championship. Finished sixth in the state as a freshman in the triple jump.

At Rancho Verde High School: Finished third in the state and had the sixth-best mark in the nation in the triple jump as a senior. Was the team’s Most Valuable Athlete. Competed in football, basketball and track and field in high school.

Personal: Son of Rudolph and Carol Como. Majoring in Kinesiology. Enjoys cutting hair, bowling and working on cars. Lists jumping his personal best of 54-7.25 last season as his most exciting experience in sports. Says he cuts and designs his hair as well as for family members and friends.
