No. 1 Men's Soccer ascends to the top of national poll

An unbeaten start and five consecutive shutouts have lifted Cal State LA to No. 1 in the United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division II Men's Soccer national rankings. 

The Golden Eagles jumped seven spots from No. 8 to claim the top position, continuing a rapid climb through the national poll. This marks the first time the Golden Eagles reached the top of the national poll since Sept. 20, 2022, after a 6-0 start following their 2021 National Championship campaign.

Cal State LA is 5-0-0 and has outscored its opponents 8-0. The Golden Eagles opened with wins over Concordia and Vanguard before adding three consecutive 1-0 victories against No. 20 Regis and regional foes Biola and Westmont. Abraham Ramirez has played all 450 minutes in net without allowing a goal. He has 17 saves and has faced 41 shots. Jose Mariscal leads the Golden Eagles with five points. He has already recorded two game-winning goals and assisted on another. Seven different student-athletes have accounted for Cal State LA's eight goals.

The Golden Eagles will put their perfect record on the line when they host Cal Poly Pomona on Friday, at 7 p.m., before traveling to Cal State Monterey Bay on Sunday for a 2 p.m. match. Both matches will be available on FloCollege.
