LOS ANGELES -- Abraham Ramirez made 10 saves, including a second-half penalty-kick stop, as Cal State LA held off Regis for a 1-0 victory on Thursday at University Stadium.
Jose Mariscal scored the match's only goal in the 16th minute. Emil Kischka delivered the assist, setting up Mariscal for his second goal of the season and an early 1-0 advantage.
Ramirez made two saves during the opening half to send the Golden Eagles into the break with the lead. He denied Sahar Golov in the ninth minute and turned away another Golov attempt in the 40th.
Regis increased the pressure after halftime and earned a penalty kick in the 53rd minute. Ramirez stopped Jacobo Betancourt-Tovar's attempt to preserve the shutout before making two more saves in the following minute.
Cal State LA was reduced to 10 players when Geovanni Antuna received a red card in the 64th minute. The Golden Eagles withstood sustained pressure over the final 26 minutes as Regis continued searching for the equalizer.
Ramirez stopped Michael Ajagbe immediately following the red card and later denied Johan Murillo, Ben Christian Wittenbernds and Jan Grillitsch. His final save came in the 88th minute, helping Cal State LA secure its second consecutive shutout.
Regis finished with a 21-5 advantage in total shots, including an 18-2 margin in the second half, and placed 10 attempts on goal. Cal State LA put four of its five shots on target.
Oscar Haglund, Allan Rosales and Sho Toda each recorded a shot on goal for the Golden Eagles. Kischka's assist was his second point-producing performance in as many matches.
The victory improved Cal State LA to 3-0 on the season, while Regis fell to 1-1. The Golden Eagles return to action Wednesday against Biola at 7 p.m. inside University Stadium.
