LOS ANGELES -- Cal State LA's baseball team has clinched a return trip to the California Collegiate Athletic Association Tournament.
While the Golden Eagles have been on a bye this week after concluding their regular season last Sunday, results from around the conference on Friday solidified their tournament berth. Cal State LA (26-24, 16-16 CCAA) will be making back-to-back appearances in the tournament for the first time since 2017-18.
The five tournament teams are set with regular-season champion Cal State Monterey Bay, Cal Poly Pomona, Cal State San Marcos, Cal State LA and Cal State San Bernardino clinching spots. Final seedings are still up in the air, although Cal State LA and Cal State San Bernardino are set for a first-round matchup as the No. 4-No. 5 seeds on Wednesday. The Coyotes are hosting the tournament at Fiscalini Field.
The winner of Wednesday's game will advance to the double-elimination part of the tournament with the top three seeds beginning on Thursday, while the loser is eliminated.
The format is slightly different this year with five teams qualifying instead of six since the departure of San Francisco State and Sonoma State left the conference with only nine baseball teams.
Complete tournament seedings will be announced by the conference after the conclusion of Saturday's conference games.
Cal State LA also finds itself in the mix for the NCAA playoffs. The Golden Eagles were sixth in the West Region poll released on Wednesday. Six teams from the West will qualify.Â
