LOS ANGELES -- Cal State LA's
Cesar Chavez has been named the FloCollege/CCAA Baseball Player of the Week for the week of Mar. 9-15, the conference announced on Monday.
Chavez hit safely all four games against Stanislaus State, including an 8-for-8 performance in Saturday's doubleheader. The junior outfielder went 10-for-15 in the series and also drew three walks and was hit by a pitch. Chavez scored eight runs in the series and drove in four.
On Saturday, he went 5-for-5 with a walk and three runs scored in the opener before following it up with a 3-for-3, three runs scored and one RBI, outing in the nightcap. He reached base safely in all 10 plate appearances in the doubleheader with five hits and a walk in six appearances in the opener and had three hits and a hit by pitch in the nightcap.
Chavez then reached base in his first three at bats on Sunday with a pair of walks and a single to make it 13 straight appearances reaching base.
Cal State LA won the series 3-1, improving to 5-3 in CCAA play (15-10 overall).
Chavez is now fifth in the CCAA in batting average (.414) and third in on-base percentage (.526).
Chavez is the first Golden Eagle to be named CCAA Player of the Week this season.
