Golden Eagles Unable To Slow Down No. 3 Pioneers

HAYWARD -- Cal State LA's men's basketball team had a tough time trying to slow down No. 3 Cal State East Bay on Thursday.

The Golden Eagles shot 50 percent for the game, but the unbeaten Pioneers still raced away to a 102-79 California Collegiate Athletic Association victory in Pioneer Gym. Cal State LA (7-14, 6-9 CCAA) slips two games out of fourth and one game behind a trio of teams tied for fifth in the conference. The top six will qualify for the CCAA Tournament. Seven conference games remain.

Deraje Agbaosi led the Golden Eagles in scoring once again with 17 points and seven rebounds. Isaiah Fields had 16 points and four assists and Jordan Hansen had 11 points and eight rebounds.

Jaayden Bush had 14 points to lead Cal State East Bay (21-0, 15-0 CCAA), which had six players score in double figures.

Khemanni Davis had nine points, Michael Pearson Jr. had seven points and Donovan Vickers and Connor Scales had six points each for the Golden Eagles.

Cal State LA shot 50 percent for the game (25-of-50) and was 6-of-17 from 3-point range. The Golden Eagles were 23-of-31 from the free-throw line. Cal State East Bay shot 57.4 percent (39-of-68) and was 8-of-21 from 3-point range. The Pioneers were 16-of-31 from the free-throw line. Cal State East Bay had a 38-29 rebounding edge and committed 10 turnovers to 18 forthe Golden Eagles. The Pioneers had a 29-7 edge in fast-break points.

The Golden Eagles trailed 58-34 at halftime and were unable to get closer than 21 points in the second half.

Cal State LA will return to action on Saturday with a road game at San Francisco State.
