Golden Eagles Are Fifth In NCAA West Region Poll

LOS ANGELES -- Cal State LA's women's basketball team is ranked No. 5 in the first official NCAA Division II West Region poll released by the NCAA Division II Women's Basketball Committee on Wednesday.

The Golden Eagles (20-5) were one of three California Collegiate Athletic Association teams ranked in the top-10, including No. 3 Cal Poly Pomona and No. 8 Cal Poly Humboldt.

The Golden Eagles are seeking their third NCAA appearance in the past four years. The Golden Eagles reached the NCAA playoffs for the first time in 2006 and have also reached the tourney in 2012, 2023 and 2024.

Central Washington (22-4) is ranked No. 1 in the region and is followed by Western Washington (21-6), Cal Poly Pomona (22-3), Vanguard (19-4), Cal State LA (20-4), Point Loma (19-7), Northwest Nazarene (16-9), Cal Poly Humboldt (18-8), Azusa Pacific (19-8) and Saint Martin's (15-9).

Each of the three conferences in the West Region has an automatic bid and the next five at-large teams will qualify for the NCAA Division II playoffs. All three conferences give their automatic bid to the winner of their conference tournament.

The Golden Eagles' resume is bolstered by non-conference wins over Western Washington and Azusa Pacific.

Cal State LA is enjoying a record-setting season. The Golden Eagles have won a program-record 14 games in a row and are currently second in the CCAA, one game back of Cal Poly Pomona and one game ahead of Cal Poly Humboldt. The Golden Eagles will finish the regular season with home games against Cal State San Bernardino and Cal Poly Pomona and can earn at least a share of their first-ever CCAA championship with wins in the final two games.
