LOS ANGELES -- Cal State LA's women's tennis team dropped a tough decision to visiting Biola on Wednesday in the Golden Eagles' 2026 home opener.
The Golden Eagles picked up the doubles point behind a splendid performance from No. 1 team
Maldini Simic and
Sofia Pavlova, but managed just two points in singles and fell to the Eagles, 4-3, at the Billie Jean King Tennis Complex. Cal State LA (0-2) got a big win at No. 2 singles from Simic and a win via forfeit at No. 6 singles, but that wasn't enough to hold off Biola (3-1).
The Golden Eagles picked up the doubles point with Simic and Pavlova earning a 6-1 decision over Biola's Dafne Andres and Ivet Stancheva. The Golden Eagles also took the No. 3 doubles by forfeit.
Simic was also outstanding in singles as she beat Andres, 6-2, 7-5, at No. 2 singles.Â
Pavlova dropped a hard-fought 6-3, 6-3 decision at No. 1 singles to Stancheva and
Georgiana Parr also had a hard-fought contest against Isabelle Karam at No. 3 singles, 6-4, 7-5.
Mane Sargsyan fell to Alexis Romano of Biola at No. 4 singles, 6-0, 6-0 and
Ainoho Salo fell at No. 6 singles to Cassie Donar, 6-0, 6-0.
