Golden Eagles Picked To Finish Second In CCAA

LOS ANGELES -- Cal State LA's women's golf team has been picked to finish second in the California Collegiate Athletic Association in a poll of conference coaches released this week.

The Golden Eagles, who finished second in the conference last season to match their best-ever finish, received one first-place vote and 20 points to finish behind six-time CCAA champion Cal State San Marcos, which got the other four first-place votes and 24 points. Cal State East Bay was picked third, Cal State Monterey Bay fourth and Chico State fifth.

Cal State LA has earned back-to-back at-large bids to the NCAA West Regional. Last year, the Golden Eagles finished in a tie for sixth at the NCAA West Regional and missed qualifying for nationals by one spot. The Golden Eagles bring back an experienced group with two All-CCAA selections, Joshlyn Ayala and Daniela Andrade. Ayala finished in a tie for third at the CCAA Championships this past spring and had the lowest scoring average on the team. Andrade finished in a tie for sixth at the CCAA Championships and in a tie for 10th at the West Regional and picked up her second victory in as many years by capturing the Tim Tierney Pioneer Classic in February.

The Golden Eagles also return Sarah Amaya, who finished in a tie for sixth at the CCAA Championships last spring.

Cal State LA added a pair of Sonoma State transfers in senior Talia Gutman and sophomore Rilee Crosby. Gutman finished second in the CCAA Championships in 2023 and earned CCAA Freshman of the Year honors one year before Andrade won it for Cal State LA in 2024. The Golden Eagles also welcome junior Lisette Orellana, a transfer from Moorpark College.

The Golden Eagles opened their 2025-26 season last week at the Swan Memorial in Colorado last week with a third-place finish. Gutman finished in a tie for second place in her Cal State LA debut and Ayala finished in a tie for fifth.

Cal State LA will begin play in its second tournament, the RJGA Women's Shootout at Estrella, on Monday in Arizona.
