LOS ANGELES -- Cal State LA's men's and women's track and field teams returned to action on Saturday and turned in some outstanding performances Saturday at UCLA's Rafer Johnson/Jackie Joyner Kersee Invitational.
Jonon Young won the long jump and posted an NCAA Division II provisional qualifying mark in the triple jump to highlight the day for the women's team, while Matthew Bender won the javelin and Jahbari Fraser had top times in the 100 and 200 meters for the men's team at Drake Stadium.
Young won the long jump with a mark of 19-10.75, which was just short of her season's best of 20-6.25 that still leads the nation. She was also third in the triple jump with a mark of 41-2.25, which currently ranks in the top-five.
Vanessa Portillo was second in the javelin with a mark of 112-5, third in the hammer with a mark of 148-7 and fifth in the shot put and discus, while
Sinaiah Pointer was third in the shot put with a mark of 40-5.50 and third in the discus with a mark of 127-6.Â
Bender won the javelin with a mark of 190-10, which was just off his season's best while Noah Moreno was second with a mark of 129-6.Fraser ran a season's best of 10.68 while finishing second in the 100 and also finished fifth in the 200 with a mark of 21.94.
Ike Aninze finished third in the 400 hurdles in 53.97 for the Golden Eagles, while Drew Hill was fourth in the 400 with a time of 48.34Â Cahari Allen was fifth in the triple jump and sixth in the long jump.
Cal State LA will return to action when the Golden Eagles host the Twilight Open with throwing events held at Cerritos College on Wednesday, April 16 and the main meet on Thursday, April 17 at Jesse Owens Track.
