LOS ANGELES -- Cal State LA's
Kailea Satterwhite earned All-Region honors from the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, the organization announced on Wednesday.
The top-five individuals in each event from each region as well as the top-three relay teams earned All-Region distinction. The regions used for the award are Atlantic, Central, East, Midwest, South, South Central, Southeast and West.
Satterfield earned the honors for her mark in the weight throw, an event she has excelled at during her career at Cal State LA. She had a best mark this season of 54-6 that she set at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational hosted by Boston University. The mark is No. 2 all-time at Cal State LA and just 2.25 inches off the program record of 54-8.25 set by Kirran Moss in 1998.
After completing the indoor season in February, Satterwhite is off to a strong start in the outdoor season. She already has a personal best of 158-11 in the discus, which is a provisional qualifying mark for the NCAA Division II championships and is currently No. 3 in the nation. She was named the Flo College/California Collegiate Athletic Association Field Athlete of the Week for the week of Feb. 23-March 1.
Cal State LA's men's and women's track and field team are scheduled to compete this week at the Oxy Distance Carnival and Spring Break Classic hosted by Occidental College on Saturday.
