Quotes:
Kailea Satterwhite:
"I was excited coming out to Redlands. I've been working on my discus technique a lot, so I knew something big was coming. After not doing my best at the Long Beach Open, I knew I had to come out here and redeem myself. I was fortunate enough to hit a mark of 49.82. I know this mark will open a lot of doors for me and really set me up for the rest of the season. I couldn't do any of this without my support system and trust in God. l know my coaches and teammates will always be there to support me."
Â
Sinaiah Pointer:
Great meet! I am grateful for all my teammates whose energy and support pushed me to give it my all and show up strong. However, I'm not satisfied yet, I know I have more in me. I want to come back next week and hopefully PR."
Â
Emmerson Wiggins:
"I really enjoyed running at the Redlands Invitational and competing against strong athletes. In the 400 meters, I ran a 58.14, which showed my effort and focus during the race. In the 200 meters, I ran a 24.9, and I'm really happy with that because I've been staying consistent with my times. Overall, it was a great experience and helped me see my progress is and what I can keep improving on.
Â
Nicholas Aninze:
"I'm grateful for the opportunity to compete at the Redlands Invitational. It was a great experience to continue building on the progress from the start of the season, and I'm thankful for the support from my teammates and coaches throughout the meet. Each race is helping me grow and gain confidence, especially with the team pushing each other to improve every day. I'm also thankful for our coaches and the guidance they provide, helping us stay disciplined and focused on the process. The season is still early, and I'm looking forward to continuing to improve and contribute to the team as we move forward.
Â
Coach Tina Fernandes:
"The meet was undeniably a sweltering one. For our decathlete Tony Espinosa, he persevered through two days of intense heat. He embraced the challenge with great focus. We are thrilled with his ongoing progress across his events. He is highly receptive to coaching, and each coach appreciates witnessing his development, as he is a pleasure to work with. The heat likely impacted the distance group the most, as they are not accustomed to competing in such high temperatures. Nevertheless, they all rose to the occasion and managed to compete admirably. Our dynamic duo, Kailea and Sinaiah, continues to flourish in the throws. They are excelling in motivating not only their event group, but also others across different areas. Kanye had an impressive meet, demonstrating significant progress."
"The hurdles group is making strides with Nicholas Aninze and
Dalia Romo at the forefront, leading their group and others on the team. This event group consistently puts in hard work and continues to strive for improvement.
The jumpers experienced several remarkable advancements, with Mekhi Sanchez leading the men, while
Summer Stevenson and
Cecille Lightbourn are making substantial progress in their respective groups. Te'Quon Chatman has been nothing short of exceptional, competing in the long jump, 100m, 200m, and 4X400m. He is also taking the lead for us, showing impressive improvements with each competition.
"I am thrilled to witness another impressive achievement with Wallace Aflamah and Drew Hill securing positions at the national level, inspiring our young men to follow in their footsteps. On the women's side, we have a blend of returning athletes and newcomers.
Emmerson Wiggins and
Ski'lar Wallace have consistently demonstrated their development throughout their freshman year. Our freshman newcomer,
Keiasja Carbins, is showing progress in the 100m, while
Jewel Perry showcases her versatile abilities from the 100m to the 400m. Additionally, the hardworking transfer,
Jaylin Morgan, is enhancing our sprint group with her talent. We have made significant strides in nearly all our event groups, but the most exhilarating aspect is collaborating with student-athletes who are eager to put in the effort. We have more up and coming student-athletes who will showcase their talent as the opportunities and hard work present itself."
