LOS ANGELES -- Cal State LA's women's tennis team competed well on Sunday in a regional match against Stanislaus State.
The Golden Eagles got singles wins from
Maldini Simic and
Hideka Takamura in a 5-2 loss to the Warriors at the Cal State LA Tennis Complex. Cal State LA (1-6) dropped a contested doubles point to Stanislaus State (8-4) and the Warriors went on to win four of the six singles matches.
Simic had the most overpowering win of the day, recording a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles over Alyssa Tay. Takamura, meanwhile, prevailed in a lengthy battle at No. 2 singles, wrapping up the match in straight sets, 7-5, 7-6 (7-0).
The match of the day came at No. 3 singles, where
Sarah Olmos forced a third set before falling in a third-set tiebreaker, 7-5, 2-6, (10-8), to Annabelle Mulick.
Courtlyn Lam played an inspired match at No. 5 singles, falling 6-1, 6-4, to Abbigail Mulick, while
Summer Roybal fell to Malah White, 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4 singles and
Charlotte Downs fell to Parker Orlando at No. 6 singles, 6-2, 6-0.
In doubles, Olmos and Takamura fell at the No. 1 spot to Annabelle Mulick and Emma Yu, 6-3, and Roybal and Downs fell to Orlando and Abbigail Mulick at No. 3 doubles, 6-0. Simic and Lam led at No. 2 doubles, 5-4, over White and Tay when the doubles point was clinched.
Cal State LA will return to action on Wednesday at noon with a home match against Dominican.
