Buggs Leads Five Golden Eagles On All-CCAA Team

2024-25 All-CCAA Team

LOS ANGELES -- Cal State LA's women's basketball team had five players earn All-California Collegiate Athletic Association honors on Tuesday as the conference announced the 2024-25 All-CCAA women's basketball team.
 
Senior Lily Buggs made it 4-for-4, earning first-team All-CCAA honors for a fourth straight season. Juniors Amaya Fuentes and Olivia Hodges both earned second-team All-CCAA recognition, while junior Nevaeh Asiasi and sophomore Sofia Fidelus both earned All-CCAA honorable mention.

Buggs became only the second player in program history to earn first-team honors in all four seasons and the first to do it over four straight seasons. She joined Monica Tokoro as a four-time first-team selection.

Buggs was a CCAA Freshman of the Year in her first season Cal State LA in 2022 and has become one of the best players in program history. Buggs currently leads the team in scoring with 13.9 points per game and is second in rebounding, second in assists and tied for first in steals.

Fuentes is one of the team's most improved players and is second on the team in scoring with 10.5 points per game and fourth in rebounds. She leads the team with 56 successful 3-pointers.

Hodges has also shown tremendous improvement in her third year with the program and leads the conference in rebounding with 10.4 rebounds per game. She also averages 9.0 points contest.

Another third-year player having the best season of her career, Asiasi, is fourth on the team with 10.3 points per game. She leads the team in assists with 95 and she shares the team lead in steals with 41. 

Fidelus, who has thrived in an increased role in her second season with the program, is averaging 9.3 points per game and is second on the team in 3-pointers, third in assists and fourth in steals.

Buggs was joined on the first team by Chico State's Jordan Allred, Meadow Aragon and Makenzi Laporte, Cal Poly Pomona's Kalaya Buggs and Sydney Nelson, Cal State San Bernardino's Jaida Jackson and Lauryn Morris and Cal State Dominguez Hills' Nala Williams and Asia Jordan.

Williams was named the CCAA Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year, while Alysa Lopez of Sonoma State was named the CCAA Newcomer of the Year. Cristina Jones of Cal State Dominguez Hills was named the Freshman of the Year and John Bonner of Cal State Dominguez Hills was named the Coach of the Year.

Cal State LA, as the No. 6 seed, will face No. 3 seed Chico State in a first-round CCAA Tournament game on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. at Cal State San Marcos
