Golden Eagles Drop Hard-Fought Match To Roadrunners

LOS ANGELES -- Cal State LA's women's tennis team came up just a little bit short in a tough battle against MSU Denver on Tuesday.

The Golden Eagles captured the doubles point, but the Roadrunners took four of the first five singles matches contested to record a 4-2 victory. The match was called after MSU Denver (10-9) clinched the fourth point.

Cal State LA (1-10) got off to a strong start and took the doubles point after wins from Sarah Olmos and Hideka Takamura at No. 1 doubles, 6-3, over Hanna Haber and Victoria Ricaurte and at No. 2 doubles from Sofia Pavlova and Courtlyn Lam, 6-3, over Monica Guarin and Louise Hosking. Lea Rolland, making her return after injury, and Summer Roybal fell at No. 3 doubles, 6-3, to MSU Denver's Kim Heddes and Bella Hernandez.

Lam picked up the singles victory for the Golden Eagles, coming back from a first-set deficit to post a 7-6 (8-6), 6-1 win over Hosking at No. 5 singles.

Pavlova was once again in the match of the day, a battle at No. 1 singles against Haber. Pavola won the first set, dropped the second and was tied at 5-5 in the third when the match was called. This was Pavola's third straight three-set match.

Takamura fell at No. 2 singles, 6-4, 6-3, to Heddes, Olmos fell in a tough three-set match to Ricuarte, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4, at No. 3 singles, Roybal fell to Guarin at No. 4  singles, 6-0, 6-0 and Charlotte Downs fell to Kinsey Lockhart, 6-0, 6-3, at No. 6 singles.

Cal State LA will return to action on Thursday with a match against Menlo at 11:30 a.m.
