LOS ANGELES -- Cal State LA's women's team, down to just five players due to injury and illness, fell short at home on Thursday to Menlo.
The Golden Eagles were only able to field a lineup with five singles players and two doubles teams and lost to Menlo, 4-0, at the Cal State LA Tennis Complex. Cal State LA (1-11) was missing three of the top four players in its usual singles lineup.
Since Menlo (5-7) took the No. 3 doubles decision by walkover, the Golden Eagles officially dropped the point when
Lea Rolland and
Summer Roybal fell at No. 2 doubles, 6-1, to Milana Hrudka and Anthea Weiland.
Sarah Olmos and
Courtlyn Lam were trailing in the No. 1 doubles match, 4-2, when the point was clinched.
The Golden Eagles dropped the No. 6 singles point due to a walkover and Roybal fell at No. 4 singles, 6-1, 6-2, to Yousra Hidass and
Charlotte Downs fell at No. 5 singles to Lea Mocher, 6-1, 6-1.
Lam was in the midst of a nice comeback at No. 2 singles. After dropped the first set to Anthea Weiland, 6-2, Lam was ahead, 3-1, in the second set when the match was called. Olmos dropped the first set to Livia Harper, 7-6 (7-3) and hadn't started the second set when the match ended and Rolland was trailing Milana Hrudka, 6-3, 3-0, at No. 3 singles when the match was called.
Cal State LA will return to action on April 1 with a road match at Biola.
