Golden Eagles Compete Well In Match At Biola

LA MIRADA -- Cal State LA's women's tennis team fell to Biola on Tuesday in a match that was much closer than the final score.

The Golden Eagles fell to Biola, 6-1, at the Biola Tennis Center, but had several singles matches that could have gone either way throughout the lineup.

Sofia Pavlova picked up the point for the Golden Eagles, winning at No. 1 singles over Biola's Kailee Mazzeo, 5-7, 7-5, (10-4). It was a well-deserved win for Pavlova, who has now been involved in four three-set decisions in a row. She dropped third-set tiebreakers against Point Loma and Concordia and was even in the third set at 5-5 against MSU Denver's Hanna Haber when the match was called.

She fought back after dropping the first set on Tuesday and was rewarded with the 10-4 edge in the super tiebreaker.

Sarah Olmos had a close call at No. 2 singles, falling in three sets to Isabella Chavarria, 6-0, 5-7, 6-4. Olmos battled back impressively after dropping the first set, 6-0.

Hideka Takamura had a strong second set in a 6-2, 7-5, decision to Alessia Radu at No. 3 singles and Courtlyn Lam battled to a second-set tiebreaker in a 6-2, 7-6, decision to Gaby Carvajal.

Lea Rolland fought hard in a 6-2, 6-1 decision to Isabelle Karam at No. 4 singles and Charlotte Downs also had a good effort in a 6-0, 6-2 decision to Alexis Romano at No. 5 singles.

Cal State LA dropped the doubles point, although the team of Olmos and Takamura had a 4-3 at the No. 1 spot when the point was clinched.

Cal State LA will return to action on Friday with a home match against Westmont at 2 p.m.
