SANTA BARBARA -- Cal State LA's women's tennis battled admirably on Wednesday despite not being at full strength.
Missing No. 1 player
Sofia Pavlova and without No. 2
Maldini Simic after the doubles, the Golden Eagles fell to Westmont, 5-2, at Westmont College.
With all the Golden Eagles jumping up two spots due to the absences,
Sarah Olmos and
Courtlyn Lam picked up singles victories. Olmos beat Sophia Ostovany, 7-5, 6-1, at No. 2 singles and Lam earned a decision at No. 5 singles due to an opponent retirement.
Hideka Takamura, playing at No. 1 singles, fell to Francesca Aguirre, 6-2, 6-2,
Lea Rolland fell to Lauren Gee, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 in the match of the day at No. 3 singles,
Summer Roybal fell to Johanna Winkler at No. 4 singles, 6-3, 6-2 and
Charlotte Downs fell to Sabina Salva, 6-0, 6-3, at No. 6 singles.
Cal State LA dropped the doubles point as Olmos and Takamura were edged at No. 1 doubles, 6-4, by Gee and Winkler and Rolland and Roybal fell to Spitzer and Aguirre, 6-2, at No. 3 doubles. Simic and Lam were trailing at No. 2 doubles, 4-3, when the point was clinched.
Cal State LA will return to action on Sunday with a home match against Hawaii Pacific at 11 a.m.
