LOS ANGELES -- Cal State LA's women's tennis team had an outstanding performance in doubles before falling short in singles Monday in a home match against Biola.
The Golden Eagles took the doubles point and got an impressive three-set win at No. 2 singles from
Maldini Simic in a 5-2 loss to undefeated Biola. The Golden Eagles (1-3) were the first team to take a point from Biola (4-0) so far this season as the Eagles won their first three matches by 7-0 scores.
Cal State LA got on the board early with the doubles point.
Sarah Olmos and
Hideka Takamura took a 6-4 decision at No. 2 doubles over Isabella Chavarria and Alexandria Mann moments before the Golden Eagles clinched the point with a 6-3 win at No. 1 doubles by Simic and
Sofia Pavlova over Kailee Mazzeo and Dafne Andres.
The Golden Eagles dropped the first five singles contests completed before Simic pulled out the match of the day at No. 2 singles. After winning the first set, Simic had to come up big in the third set to take a dramatic 6-2, 2-6, 6-3 win over Chavarria.
Pavlova fell to Mazzeo at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-4, Takamura fell to Andres at No. 3 singles, 6-2, 7-5, Olmos fell to Alessia Radu at No. 4 singles, 6-3, 6-2,
Lea Rolland fell to Mann at No. 5 singles, 6-0, 6-3 and
Courtlyn Lam fell to Isabelle Karam at No. 6 singles, 6-1, 6-3.
Cal State LA will return to action on Wednesday, Feb. 26 at Westmont in a match originally postponed due to rain earlier this month.
