ALLENDALE, MICHIGAN -- Cal State LA's men's and women's track and field teams had some strong performances at the Grand Valley State Big Meet on Friday.

Jonon Young, making her first start of the season, posted provisional qualifying marks in the long jump and triple jump to highlight the day for the Golden Eagles. She finished third in the invitational long jump with a mark of 18-10.50 and was fourth in the triple jump with a mark of 39-4.50.

Young is the defending national champion in the indoor triple jump and she also placed second in the indoor long jump in her first season with the Golden Eagles.

Freshman Emmerson Wiggins had a good day as well, setting season-best marks while finishing third in the early section of the 200 with a time of 25.70 and placing fourth in the early section of the women's 400 with a time of 59.13.

Destiny Moedano ran a season's best time of 56.94 in the 400 and the 4xs400 relay team of Wiggins, Moedano, Dalia Romo and Paula Romo finished seventh with a season's best time of 3:53.13.

Cecille Lightbourn had a season's best mark in the triple jump with a mark of 36-3.50.

Drew Hill had a fourth-place finish in the 60 with a time of 6.77 after posting a 6.73 time in the prelims, while Jesus Chavez was fourth in the 200 with a time of 21.47 to lead the men's team. Hill was also 10th in the 200 with a mark of 21.82.

Leon Tafirenyika was 17th in the 400 with a time of 49.17.

The two-day meet will conclude on Saturday.
