LOS ANGELES -- Cal State LA's women's soccer team remained unbeaten in the 2024 season with another strong performance Saturday against Cal State Dominguez Hills.
The Golden Eagles posted their third shutout of the season with a well-played 3-0 victory over the Toros in University Stadium. Cal State LA (3-0-3) completed its non-conference schedule against Cal State Dominguez Hills (2-3-1). The two California Collegiate Athletic Association foes will meet again in a conference match later in the season.
The Golden Eagles got goals from
Destiny Moedano,
Camila Juarez and
Reyna Roman and a pair of saves from
Taesja Paopao to record the win.
Cal State LA had a 15-7 advantage in shots, including a 7-2 edge in the first half. The Golden Eagles also had a narrow 3-2 edge in corner kicks.
The Golden Eagles took command with a pair of goals in a seven-minute span late in the first half. Moedano opened the scoring in the 32nd minute with a spectacular goal on a free kick from about 30 yards out. She boomed the kick inside the far post and just under the crossbar for the first goal of her outstanding Cal State LA career.
Jaurez also picked up the first goal of her Cal State LA career when she got to a corner kick and took a hard shot that deflected off a defender and just crossed the line in the 40th minute.Â
Cal State LA completed the scoring in the 66th minute when Roman notched her team-leading third goal of the season.
Jassmin Ortiz started the play with a free kick from just outside the box and Roman got to a contested ball and knocked it in from point-blank range.
Cal State LA's defense took it from there and combined with Paopao for another shutout win.
Cal State LA will open conference play on Friday at Chico State.
