LONG BEACH -- Cal State LA's beach volleyball team competed Thursday against two of the top NCAA Division I programs in the country on a breezy day at Long Beach State.

The Golden Eagles dropped a pair of 5-0 decisions to No. 18 Pepperdine and No. 12 Long Beach State, but not without plenty of highlights. Cal State LA's No. 1 pairs team of Ashley Dittmann and Iane Henke played a pair of tremendous matches, taking the first set in each before falling in three-set battle against top-notch competition.

Against Pepperdine, Dittmann and Henke took a highly-competitive opening set before falling to Kate Clermont and McKenna Thomas, 20-22, 21-7, 15-10, while the Cal State LA team took the opening set against Long Beach State's Sydney Stevens and Julia Westby, 18-21, 21-17, 15-8.

Eliza Cannon and Jameson Sanders fell to Pepperdine's Alexus McLeod and Savannah Standage, 21-8, 21-6 at No. 2 pairs, Emily Elliott and Zuhal Cetin had a strong showing in a 21-9, 21-14 loss at No. 3 pairs to Aubrey Roberts and Juju Quintero, Shelby Grubbs and Haley Roundtree fell to Gabriella Perez and Gracey Campbell at No. 4 pairs, 21-3, 21-10 and Ayjah Landers and Jaden Grova put up quite a battle before falling to Madison Oriskovich and Kristine Briede at No. 5 singles, 21-16, 21-11.

Against Long Beach State, Cannon and Sanders fell to Malia Gementera and Taylor Hagenah at No. 2 pairs, 21-5, 21-4, Elliott and Cetin fell to Natalie Glenn and Megan Widener at No. 3 pairs, 21-7, 21-6, Grubbs and Roundtree fell to Maggie Walters and Savannah Lyons at No. 4 pairs, 21-6, 21-9 and Landers and Grova fell to Kate Stoughton and Emily Mattoon, 21-5, 21-11.

Cal State LA will return to action with a pair of matches against CSUN next Thursday, April 13, at Cal State Northridge.
