LOS ANGELES -- Cal State LA's baseball team was unable to salvage a series split against a hot-hitting San Francisco State team Sunday at Reeder Field.
The Golden Eagles trailed just 3-2 after three innings, but were done in by the Gators scoring 11 runs over the next four innings on their way to a 14-3 decision in the finale of a California Collegiate Athletic Association series. Cal State LA (11-15, 6-11 CCAA) dropped three of the four games to San Francisco State (16-11, 9-10 CCAA).
Johnny Pacheco scored two of Cal State LA's three runs, while
Fabian Moran scored the other. Pacheco,
Andrew Tovar and
Alfonso Jalil drove in runs for the Golden Eagles.
Daniel Santos had three hits to lead an 18-hit attack for the Gators, who got a home run from AJ Schrader and three RBI from Gavin Haimovitz.
Jordyn Eglite allowed only three hits and an unearned run over six innings of relief for the Gators.
Eric Navarrete got the start for the Golden Eagles and allowed four runs over the first four innings before departing with no one out in the fifth. He gave up five hits and walked three while striking out one.
Zechariah Jarrard,
Troy Maki,
Kai Penuelas and
Yuji Sakane all pitched in relief for the Golden Eagles with Sakane tossing a scoreless ninth inning.
Cal State LA will play a makeup game against Cal State San Bernardino on Monday at 3 p.m. at Reeder Field before starting a four-game series at Cal Poly Pomona beginning on Thursday.
