SAN DIEGO -- A short-handed Cal State LA team came up on the short end of a 6-1 decision Friday at Point Loma.
Down to just five healthy players due to injuries, the Golden Eagles got a singles win from
Sarah Olmos at No. 1 singles to avoid a shutout. Cal State LA (2-9) was without its usual No. 3 doubles pair of
Savaughna Mayo and
Courtlyn Lam.
Olmos continued her run of outstanding play with a clutch win in the featured singles match of the day. She took a third-set tiebreaker to bet Point Loma's Arianna Audelo, 7-5, 3-6, (10-3).Â
The other four singles matches were decided in straight sets.
Sakura Kurokawa fell at No. 2 singles to Joelle Lanz, 6-1, 6-2,
Hideka Takamura fell to Angelique Friedrich at No. 3 singles, 6-2, 7-5,
Alexandra Hincu fell to Amanda Letzring, 6-3, 6-4 at No. 4 singles and
Lea Rolland fell to Thelma Sepulveda, 6-0, 6-2, at No. 5 singles.Â
With the Golden Eagles unable to field a third doubles team, the doubles point was decided when Olmos and Kurokawa fell at No. 1 doubles to Audelo and Faith Pearson, 6-3. Takamura and Hincu had an outstanding match at No. 2 doubles and had a 5-2 lead when the doubles point was clinched.
Cal State LA will return to action next Tuesday, March 28, at Concordia.
