Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Golden Eagles Suffer Tough Loss To Toros

CARSON -- Cal State LA's men's basketball still has conference tournament aspirations, but the road to Turlock just got a bit more difficult after a loss to Cal State Dominguez Hills on Saturday.

The Golden Eagles held a 32-29 halftime lead, but the Toros shot 67 percent in the second half and turned the tables in a 68-61 decision in the Torodome. Cal State LA (11-15, 8-12 CCAA) is still alive in the quest for the tourney, but must win its last two home games next week and hope for favorable results from what could be a multi-team jam for the sixth and last spot in the tourney.

Kaden Rasheed led the Golden Eagles with 12 points, while Jared Pearre had 10 points and four rebounds.

Jeremy Dent-Smith had 23 points to lead the Toros (11-15, 7-13 CCAA).

Kyjuan Cannady had nine points and eight rebounds for the Golden Eagles, while Shane Bell had eight points and two assists.

Cal State LA shot 41 percent for the game (25-of-61) and was just 6-of-21 from 3-point range. The Golden Eagles were 5-of-9 from the free-throw line. Cal State Dominguez Hills shot 57.4 percent for the game (27-of-47) and was 6-of-16 from 3-point range. The Toros were 8-of-10 from the free-throw line. Rebounding was a big issue once again for the Golden Eagles with the Toros holding a 39-21 advantage. Cal State LA committed only six turnovers while forcing 17 from the Toros.

The Golden Eagles fell into a quick 14-4 hole, but battled back and got a pair of 3-pointers from Rasheed and a steal and dunk from Payton Moore and baskets from Rasheed and Cannady to take a 21-16 lead. A 3-pointer by Jaden Lazo and a basket by Cannady pushed the lead to 28-21 and the Golden Eagles settled for a 32-29 halftime lead.

A 3-pointer by Bell gave the Golden Eagles a 47-45 lead with 12:26 to go and Bell hit another 3-pointer to tie the game at 50-50 with nine minutes to play. A basket by Alexander Sokol tied it again at 54-54 with six minutes to go, but the Toros scored the next four points and led the rest of the way. A jumper by Moore brought the Golden Eagles to within 61-60 with 2:48 to go, but they managed only one point the rest of the way and fell short.

Cal State LA will return to action on Thursday night with a home game against Sonoma State.
