LOS ANGELES -- Cal State LA's women's soccer team had three players selected to the 2023 Division II Conference Commissioners Association Women's Soccer All-West Region Team, the organization announced on Tuesday.

Taesja Paopao earned first-team honors, while midfielder
Shelby Melin was named to the second team. Orozco, who earned second-team honors in 2022, picked up DII CCA All-Region honors for the second time, while Paopao and Melin earned all-region for the first time. All three Golden Eagles are juniors.
A total of 13 players were named to the first team, while another 13 were named to the second team. Hawaii-Hilo had the most all-region selections with five, Seattle Pacific had four and Cal State LA, Point Loma and Western Washington had three each. A total of 12 institutions were represented on the All-Region teams.
Hawaii-Hilo forward Teani Arakawa was named the West Region Player of the Year.
The DIIÂ CCA Player of the Year award and all-region teams are nominated and selected by members of the region's athletics communications staffs.
Cal State LA enjoyed another outstanding season and advanced to the second round of the NCAA playoffs for the first time since 2019 and for the fourth time in program history. The Golden Eagles (9-3-9) were the No. 3 seeds in the West Region after a strong season that saw them set a new program record with a 15-match unbeaten streak.
Orozco had another strong season for the Golden Eagles and led a defense that allowed only 10 goals all year and produced 12 shutouts. She started in 19 of the team's 21 games this season and has started 40 games over the past two seasons. Earlier this month, she earned first-team All-CCAA honors for a second straight year.
Paopao had a tremendous season for the Golden Eagles in her first year with the program. A junior transfer from UC Irvine, Paopao was named the CCAA Goalkeeper of the Year and earned first-team All-CCAA honors. She allowed only nine goals all season, had a saves percentage of .886 and a goals against average of 0.43.
She had a shining moment in the NCAA playoffs when she made three straight saves and blanked Simon Fraser in four rounds of penalty kicks to enable the Golden Eagles to advance, 2-0, in a shootout after a 0-0 tie in a first-round match.
Melin had her best season with the Golden Eagles and earned her first all-region award. She also earned All-CCAA honors for the first time after sharing the team lead in goals with four and finishing second in the team in points with nine. She was also fourth on the team in minutes played with 1,500 in 19 starts.
The DII CCA encourages and promotes Division II athletics and high standards of sportsmanship as important elements of high education. The DII CCA is a key communications link among the conferences as they discuss views, policies and regulations that impact NCAA Division II athletics and works closely with the NCAA as a communications channel to NCAA Division II member colleges and universities.
The 13 members of the All-West Region first team will now be placed on the national ballot for All-America consideration. The All-America teams will be released Wednesday, December 6.
