Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Golden Eagles Are Fit To Be Tied Once Again

LOS ANGELES -- Cal State LA's women's soccer team played to a tie for the fourth straight game on Sunday thanks to an inspired second-half effort that finally resulted in the equalizer.

The Golden Eagles trailed Cal State San Bernardino for nearly the entire game on a hot day at University Stadium, but a beautiful goal in the 81st minute from Erin Schrock enabled them to earn a 1-1 draw in an important California Collegiate Athletic Association contest. Cal State LA (5-1-6, 2-0-4) remains unbeaten through six conference games, but with ties only worth one point and wins three points in conference play, the Golden Eagles have 10 points and find themselves in a tie for fourth place.

The tie did enable the Golden Eagles to remain two points ahead of Cal State San Bernardino (5-5-3, 2-2-2) with five conference matches remaining.

The Golden Eagles did an admirable job of rallying from a 1-0 deficit for the second time during this four-game stretch of ties. Cal State San Bernardino struck for a goal in the 21st minute from leading scorer Nathaly Losada Lucimi, who received a through ball from Alaina O'Connell, and, despite duress, was able to get a shot past Cal State LA goalkeeper Taesja Paopao and inside the far post.

Down at halftime, the Golden Eagles picked up the pace, but Cal State San Bernardino's defense - and goalkeeper Leila Peregrina - were up to the task. Peregrina made brilliant saves on grade-A opportunities from Shrock and Alice Hernandez and kept the Yotes in front until 10 minutes.

That's when Schrock scored her first goal of the season thanks to a spectacular set-up from Jassmin Ortiz, who dribbled into the clear, through defenders, and sent a perfect pass into the middle of the box to Schrock, who shot quickly to the far post to tie the game.

Cal State LA had late bids from Miranda Navarro and Alice Hernandez, but neither shot was on frame.

Cal State LA had an 18-7 advantage in shots, including a 13-3 edge in the second half. The Golden Eagles had all six corner kicks in the game, four of them in the second half.

Destiny Moedano and Alice Hernandez had three shots each, while Shelby Melin, Ortiz, Schrock and Navarro had two shots each. Paopao made one save in goal for the Golden Eagles.

Cal State LA will return to action on Friday with a home game against Chico State at 4:30 p.m.
