LOS ANGELES -- Cal State LA's women's basketball team had an important bounce-back performance Saturday in a key California Collegiate Athletic Association victory that featured an important career milestone for a prolific scorer.
Nicole Flennaugh became only the 10th player in program history to score 1,000 points in the Golden Eagles' 80-59 win over Cal State East Bay Saturday in University Gym. Flennaugh scored 13 points as one of five Golden Eagles to reach double figures. Flennaugh, in her third year of competition for the Golden Eagles, now has 1010 career points and became the first to reach 1,000 for Cal State LA since Jazzi Johnson in 2012. Flennaugh, who leads the California Collegiate Athletic Association with 56 successful 3-pointers, is closing in the school record in that department. She is No. 2 all-time already with 212 and is just shy of the record of 218 held by Kelli Kobayashi.Â
Her milestone was made even more enjoyable with a tremendous team performance the Golden Eagles in their first game since their four-game winning streak was snapped by Cal State Dominguez Hills on Thursday. The Golden Eagles (11-6, 8-4 CCAA) used a 25-4 advantage in the second quarter to erase a 22-14 first-quarter deficit and kept Cal State East Bay (8-8, 5-7 CCAA) from regaining its early advantage.
