SANTA MONICA -- Cal State LA's beach volleyball team faced a pair of nationally-ranked opponents on Friday in Santa Monica and got spectacular results once again from its top pair.

The highlight of the day was the play of No. 1 pair Ashley Dittmann and Iane Henke, who earned a win over Loyola Marymount's top pair of Piper Mandross and Emily Anderson, 18-21, 21-18, 15-11 in the opening match of the day and then came back to beat Long Beach State's top pair, Skyler Germann/Alice Pratesti, 22-20, 22-20, in the second match.

The two impressive wins over top nationally-ranked teams continues an amazing season for Dittmann and Henke, who are now 10-3 for Cal State LA with several of the wins coming against Division I competition.

The Golden Eagles (3-10) fell to No. 4 Loyola Marymount, 4-1, and then fell to No. 12 Long Beach State, 4-1. Loyola Marymount improved 26-6 and Long Beach State improved to 16-12.

Emily Elliott and Eliza Cannon were reunited at No. 2 pairs and played admirably in a 21-13, 21-12 loss to Loyola Marymount's Marine Kinna and Avery Poppinga before battling Long Beach State's pair of Katie Kennedy and Sydney Stevens, 21-14, 21-15.

Shelby Grubbs and Allison Linder had a well-played match with Long Beach State's Kenzie Holtz and Holland Jackson, 21-14, 21-15 at No. 3 pairs.

Cal State LA will complete its season on Saturday with matches against Cal State Northridge and Cal State Bakersfield on the campus of Long Beach State. The match versus Cal State Northridge will begin at 11 a.m. and the Cal State Bakersfield match will start at 3:30 p.m.
