Golden Eagles Compete With Pac-12 Power In Exhibition

TUCSON, ARIZ. -- Cal State LA's women's basketball team faced another perennial Pac-12 Conference power in a second exhibition game on Wednesday against projected title contender Arizona.

The Golden Eagles had eight players score in a 104-46 loss to the Wildcats in front of 6,430 fans in McKale Center. Nicole Flennaugh led the Golden Eagles with 20 points, 18 of them coming via 3-pointers. She hit back-to-back 3-pointers in the second quarter for the Golden Eagles and had 11 of the team's 15 fourth-quarter points.

Lily Buggs had 11 points, three rebounds and two steals for the Golden Eagles, while Olivia Hodges had a team-high six rebounds and four points.

Jade Loville had a game-high 26 points for Arizona.

Ashley Orozco had four points and was 2-of-3 from the field. She also had two assists.

Cal State LA was 17-of-59 from the floor, including 7-of-28 from 3-point range against Arizona's tough defense. The Wildcats were 38-of-71 from the floor, inluding 11-of-19 from 3-point range. Cal State LA committed 25 turnovers to 14 for the Wildcats. Flennaugh and Buggs had two steals each for the Golden Eagles, while Orozco and Anai Washington had one each.

Buggs provided an early highlight for the Golden Eagles, delivering a three-point play to give the Golden Eagles a 3-2 lead in the first minute of the game. Later, a basket by Jada Johnson kept the Golden Eagles within 9-5, but the Wildcats scored the final 15 points of the quarter and never looked back.

Cal State LA will play its final exhibition game on Friday at Pepperdine at 7 p.m.
