AZUSA -- Cal State LA's women's soccer team turned in another stout performance, but couldn't find a goal in a tough defeat against Azusa Pacific.
The Golden Eagles surrendered a goal early in the second half and that was all the scoring in a 1-0 loss to the Cougars at the Cougar Soccer Complex. Cal State LA (0-4-1) has lost four straight games, all by one goal and three of them by 1-0 counts.
Azusa Pacific (5-1) recorded its fifth win against Calilfornia Collegiate Athletic Association competition, posting wins against San Francisco State, Cal Poly Pomona, Cal State San Bernardino, Cal State Dominguez Hills and Cal State LA. The Cougars' only loss is to Chico State.
The Golden Eagles battled to create opportunities against a tough Azusa Pacific defense and wound up with just two shots in the game.
Lauren Sanchez had the lone shot on goal in the 63rd minute, but Azusa Pacific's Maddie Williams made the save.
Miyah Coleman had a shot attempt off a corner kick blocked in the 64th minute.
Azusa Pacific enjoyed a 13-2 shots advantage and an 8-2 edge in corner kicks. The lone goal of the game came in the 48th minute courtesy of Ella Romero with assists from Bethany Tee and Maddy Morrison.
Areli Reyes started in goal for the Golden Eagles and made four saves in the first half.
Olivia Spanish made two saves for the Golden Eagles in the second half.
Cal State LA will return to action next Saturday in a non-conference game at Cal Poly Pomona.
