LOS ANGELES -- Cal State LA's women's soccer team got its offense going early and late in a big California Collegiate Athletic Association victory over Cal State Dominguez Hills.
The Golden Eagles struck for two goals in the first 10 minutes of the game and added another with three minutes to go in an important 3-1 win over the Toros at Dignity Health Sports Park Field #3 on Friday. Cal State LA (4-7-2, 4-2-1 CCAA) won its fourth straight game and continued its climb up the conference table. The Golden Eagles now have 13 points, which puts them in fourth place in the conference, one point back of third-place San Francisco State and three points behind second-place Cal State East Bay with four conference matches remaining. The top six teams qualify for the CCAA Tournament.
Cal State LA got a goal just 1:13 into the game from
Miyah Coleman, added a second goal in the 10th minute from
Liliana Gonzalez and completed the scoring with a goal in the 87th minute from
Irma Pinzon.
Areli Reyes made seven saves in a scoreless first half and

Cal State Dominguez Hills (4-9, 1-6 CCAA) had a 20-6 advantage in shots and a 6-3 in corner kicks.
Coleman got things started for the Golden Eagles with a beautiful shot inside the far post for her first career goal. Assists on the play were given to
Lauren Sanchez and
Erin Schrock.
Schrock was also involved in the Golden Eagles' second goal less than nine minutes later. Gonzalez stole the ball near midfield and dribbled through defenders before passing to Schrock just outside the box. Schrock delivered a beautiful pass back to Gonzalez in the box and she fired a shot into the net for her third goal of the season.
Cal State Dominguez Hills made it 2-1 on a goal by Nia Thompson in the 56th minute, but Cal State LA weathered the storm and put the game away on a nice goal by Pinzon in the 87th minute. On a restart,
Shelby Melin drilled the ball upfield and Pinzon split a pair of Toro defenders to get to the ball first and wound up eluding an onrushing goalkeeper and deliver the ball into an empty net.
The goal was Pinzon's third of the season and eighth of her brilliant Cal State LA career.
Cal State LA will return to action on Sunday with a road game at Cal State Monterey Bay.
