LOS ANGELES -- Cal State LA's women's tennis team continued its recent surge Thursday in a match against Hope International.
The Golden Eagles claimed the doubles point and won all six singles contests in a 7-0 win over the Royals at the Cal State LA Tennis Complex. Cal State LA (5-4) won its second straight match with both contests being won by 7-0 decisions.
Cal State LA won the first two doubles contests completed and earned the double point.
Sakura Kurokawa and
Mariko Sagara earned a 6-1 decision over Hope International's Matea Ancheta and Jessica Ulloa at No. 3 doubles and the No. 2 doubles team of
Berta Acero and
Chelsey Ruiz clinched the point with a win over Hope International's Anastasija Djordjevic and Kristen Russo, 6-2.
Noa Davico and
Amanda Schneider had a 5-2 lead in the No. 1 doubles match, but that contested was called when the doubles point was clinched.
Davico prevailed in a competitive match at No. 1 singles, 6-4, 6-3, over Andela Dejanovic. Davico was down, 3-2, in the second set, but won the last four games to win the match.Â
Ruiz won at No. 2 singles when her opponent, Djordjevic, retired in the second set. Ruiz led at the time, 6-0, 3-1. Kurokawa beat Samanta Paz, 6-1, 6-3, at No. 3 singles, Acero beat Russo, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 4 singles, Sagara beat Jessica Ulloa at No. 5 singles, 6-1, 6-1 and
Alexandra Altamirano beat Lisanne Siebrecht, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 2 singles.
Cal State LA will return to action next Wednesday with a home match against Minnesota State-Moorhead at 1:30 p.m.
